The 2015 Symposium on Robust Control Design (Rocond‘15) was held in Bratislava, Slovakia, on July 8-11, and continued in the tradition of high quality symposia. It was already the eighth event on the subject of robust control design organized once per triennium since 1994. Previous symposia were held in Rio de Janeiro (1994), Budapest (1997), Prague (2000), Milan (2003), Toulouse (2006), Haifa (2009), and Aalborg (2012). The symposium was organized by the Slovak Society for Cybernetics and Informatics – the Slovak IFAC National Member Organization, and sponsored by the IFAC TC 2.5 Robust Control and TC 2.1 Control Design.
The Symposium comprised a wide range of addressed interdisciplinary topics (robust stability and performance, model and controller reduction, H-inf and l1 optimal control and estimation, mu analysis and synthesis, parametric uncertainties, frequency domain methods, integral quadratic constraints, LMI and convex optimization, robust model predictive control, robust adaptive control, robust nonlinear control, computational methods, fault detection in uncertain systems, H-inf identification, identification for robust control, iterative identification and control, variable structure control, robust control for distributed parameter systems, switched systems and control applications (e.g. aerospace, automotive, chemical, energy systems, mechatronics, robotics, communication technology, system biology etc.).
In response to our call for papers we received 94 contributed papers and one tutorial. All of these 94 papers were put through a rigorous review process by international program committee, with all papers having between 2 and 5 reviews. Finally, 75 papers were accepted and 73 presented at the symposium. The program included 6 plenary talks presented by 7 speakers (Camacho, Geromel, Kharitonov, Kučera, Peaucelle and Henrion, Scherer) selected to various aspects of robust control design in different research areas.
The technical program was complemented by an spectacular array of social activities that included performance of Slovak Folk Art Ensemble that brought a fascinating mixture of songs, dances, and music. The next evening, Hummel string quartet performed classical repertoire of all periods dedicated to chamber music. Half day tours included sightseeing of Bratislava, visit to Red Stone Castle with wine tasting, Devin castle from Roman times, Volkswagen Bratislava automotive plant, and Hydro power plant Gabcikovo.
